Ballindalloch Single Malt Distillery
While Ballindalloch is one of Scotland’s newest whisky distilleries, and perhaps one of the prettiest, its story runs as far back as the 16th century. Built within the grounds of Ballindalloch Castle on the banks of the River Avon, the distillery marks the return of the Macpherson-Grant family to the distilling industry.
Hailing itself as ‘Scotland’s first single estate distillery’, Ballindalloch uses barley harvested from its own fields and feeds its award-winning Aberdeen Angus cattle on the draff. Production officially began in late 2014, although the distillery was officially opened by a visit from the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay (Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall) in 2015. The Macpherson-Grants have committed to waiting at least eight years before bottling any of Ballindalloch’s whisky.
Ballindalloch Castle Golf Club
The golf course at Ballindalloch for some time. It has a great reputation, having been designed by Donald Steel and Tom Mackenzie – the men responsible for the incredible track at Skibo Castle, plus numerous other projects around the world.
The round starts on the high ground from which the Highland splendours are readily apparent, before dropping down dramatically with a thrilling par five to land in the Haugh encircled by trees.
This is the forerunner to a spectacular short hole with a green position close to the bank of the River Avon, followed by another splendid par four and finally, after a short climb a strong finishing hole.
The course has nine championship quality green and 18 tees with a par of 72, making it a challenging prospect.
